Since the beginning of the year, 19 people have died in fires in Transcarpathia – Shcherbey

Transcarpathia ranks fourth in the country by emergencies risk factor – the head of the Office of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region Miroslav Shcherbey said at the briefing.

In addition, our region is a mountainous and flood hazardous area, and the total length of oil, gas and product pipelines across the region is about 1800 km, the chief rescuer said, obviously hinting that he has a lot of work.

Since the beginning of 2013, units of the State Emergencies Service in Transcarpathian region have carried out over 4,600 operations, of which over 2,000 have been on fire. In total, there have been 550 fires in the region since the beginning of the year, and in 2012 for the same period there were as many as 940 fires – the manager summarized the positive statistics. If last year, for the same period, the fires killed 23 countrymen, in 2013, this sad figure is 19 people. Damage from fires in 2012 exceeded 5 million, while this year for the same period the fire has made damages "only" for 550,000 hryvnias.
