Needs of refugees were studied in Transcarpathia

Members of the Regional Delegation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine came to Transcarpathia with the monitoring visit. Representatives of UNHCR met with the head of the State Migration Service office in Transcarpathian region Igor Mykhailyshyn and the Head of Refugees Department of the State Migration Service office Mykola Tovt.

The experts noted Transcarpathia as one of the leaders of refugee integration process. Recently they approved the regional "Action plan for the integration of refugees and persons in need of complementary protection in Ukrainian society for the period to 2020." UNHCR representatives expressed the belief that the planned measures would not remain declarative and would be implemented in practice.

They discussed problematic aspects, encountered by migration service staff working with asylum seekers. In particular, those are the lack of qualified interpreters. The material and technical base of the office that deals with refugees needs improvement. Igor Mykhailyshyn gave UNHCR representatives relevant proposals aimed at improving the work with this category of foreign migrants.

Also, the delegation visited the temporary accommodation centers for refugees in Mukachevo and Perechyn.
