“Most settlements of Transcarpathia are protected from high water” – Manivchuk

Hydrometeorological Network of the Transcarpathian Hydrometeorology Center is one of the largest in Ukraine and has 9 meteorological stations (3 specialized ones), 49 hydrological and 7 meteorological posts, a laboratory for air pollution observation and 2 observation posts.

– All observations are carried out around the clock. More than 200 people are involved in the monitoring process. But it is impossible to cover the whole territory with observation posts. So we have appealed and are appealing to local governments to send us all the information via e-mail in the case of extreme weather events. Thus, experts would be able to assess the situation and, if necessary, to visit the area. Unfortunately, few respond to this request. And Transcarpathians suffer from it in the first place, – the Head of the Transcarpathian Regional Centre for Hydrometeorology Vasyl Manivchuk said at a briefing.

Despite the rain, the forecasters do not expect any floods in the near future. Only local increase in water levels is possible:

– Most settlements of Transcarpathia are protected from high water. However, during heavy precipitation, rivers of Latorica, Uzh, Borzhava, Stara may cause some concern. The average monthly rainfall rate for the region is 60 mm (summer). Of course, there have been cases where the monthly rate was recorded in one day, – Vasyl Manivchuk summed up.
