In Ukraine, only 10% of 12 million hypertensive patients are regularly treated - Netyazhenko
Recently, in Uzhgorod there was the consultative workshop with the main freelance therapy specialist of the MoH of Ukraine Vasyl Netyazhenko who told fellow physicians on the state of implementation of the Pilot project on introduction of state regulation of prices for medicines to treat patients with hypertension.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chief of the Department of Health Hnna Romanko, the regional therapist of Transcarpathia Olga Chemet, chief physician of the regional clinical cardiology clinic Roman Soskyda, heads of departments of health of district state administrations, Uzhgorod City Council, heads of district headquarters, district internists, cardiologists, neurologists, general practitioners and family medicine doctors.
During the seminar the main freelance therapist of the Ministry of Health Vasyl Netyazhenko said that today more than 12 million people with hypertension are registered in Ukraine, and only 10% of them are systematically treated. Due to the phased implementation of the Pilot project, this figure should reach the European average, which is 30%.
In 2013, 250 million hryvnias of subsidies were allocated from the state budget to local budgets for the implementation of partial reimbursement of medicinal products for the treatment of patients with essential hypertension. The state allocated funds, but they are not being used in full, the chief physician of the MoH of Ukraine said: "On average only 30% of those funds has been used. It is very low figure."
Vasyl Netyazhenko expressed his concern about extremely low awareness of the project among the population. According to the survey, which was carried out by medical students during the summer holidays, 60% of respondents who are treated are aware of this project, 40% do not know anything, and among those who are not treated only 10% know about the project.
He also said that in the near future, the project will include a combination of drugs to help give patients comprehensive and more effective treatment "in one pill". Patients who are prone to blood clots will be additionally given Aspirin, also there will be a separate group of medicines (foreign and domestic) that will be provided to patients free of charge.
