Czechs apointed the consul in Uzhgorod

The Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Uzhgorod will open soon.  The regional administration has identified a candidate for the post of the honorary consul and sent all the necessary documents to the Czech Foreign Ministry.  They propose the candidature of the President of the Transcarpathian CCI Otto Kovchar for this position. Last week, the Czechs approved the proposed candidate.

Under international law, honorary consuls and consular posts headed by them are a special institution in consular law. The main purpose of their formation and activity is protection of the state and its citizens in that region of the state where there is no regular consular post, but there is a need to maintain and develop bilateral relations. Honorary Consul of any state in our country may only be a citizen of Ukraine who is not a civil servant, has some influence in the community and has the opportunity to maintain his or her office at his or her own expense. However, honorary consulate is not entitled to issue visas.
