Number of Ukrainians imprisoned abroad is rapidly increasing

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported that during 2012, about 5,000 Ukrainians were kept in foreign prisons. The officials obtained this figure by analyzing information received from 122 consular districts. This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to the Director of Information Policy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yevhen Perebyinis.

Recall, according to the information received from Oleh Voloshin, who served as the Director of Information Policy Department of the MFA of Ukraine in the summer of 2012, at that time, about 3 thousand Ukrainians were behind the bars in foreign countries. Among them - a Trasncarpathian Eduard Chikosh who, despite all the efforts of diplomats and lawyers was sentenced to 25 years for fabricated charges of weapons smuggling.
