Today, February 16, in Mukachevo, the plaque of the Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg was unveiled. He made history because during the Second World War, he saved tens of thousands of Jews from death in Nazi concentration camps. Being the First Secretary of the Swedish Consulate in Budapest, Wallenberg gave Jews Swedish "protective" passports which gave them immunity from reprisals.

In Mukachevo, one of the streets in the city center has long been named after the Swedish diplomat. Today, on that street they opened the plaque by the Uzhgorod sculptor Mykhailo Kolodko.

The ceremony was attended by the Mayor Zoltan Lendyel, Transcarpathian regional council chairman Ivan Baloha, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Parliament of Hungary Zsolt Nemeth, the Consul General of Hungary in Uzhgorod Jozsef Bachkayi and others.
