Former Chairman of the District Court was sentenced to 1.6 years for bribe

The verdict of the Court of Appeal of Ivano-Frankivsk region against the former chairman of the Tyachiv District Court in Transcarpathian district, who demanded and received bribes from local residents for making judgments in their favor, came into force.
In late 2011, officers of the Security Service of Ukraine together with officers of the General Prosecutor of Ukraine exposed and recorded at the district court the fact of the judge receiving the second part of the bribe on the amount of 1,100 USD.
It was established that the former head of the district court demanded 1,500 dollars from a local resident for acquitting his son in the case over grievous bodily harm.
The Appellate Court of Ivano-Frankivsk region convicted the defendant in this case under Part 3 of Art.368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to 1 year and 6 months imprisonment with the appointment of probationary period of 2 years. In addition, the Court deprived this citizen of the right to occupy positions of authority for the period of 1 year and 6 months.
