On August 29 last year, as a result of the gas explosion Uzhgorod remained without gas, part of the city - without electricity and water, one person was killed and two injured.

  140 people were evacuated.

During the investigation it was determined that the cause of the gas explosion was the damage of medium pressure gas pipeline (diameter 500 mm) caused by employees of the Transcarpathian branch of "Svemon-West" OJSC during the unauthorized work on underground cables.    As a result of the fire a woman born in 1967 suffered burns of 90% of the body and died a few days later in the hospital. Another two persons born in 1976 and 1974 were injured.

It is established that the director of the Transcarpathian branch of "Svemon-West" OJSC and the chief engineer of the same branch, who had to control the production process and take measures to prevent violations of the manufacturing process, did not ensure safety of high danger works performed. Therefore, the Prosecutor's office in Transcarpathian region completed investigation on this criminal case, managers of the said company have been already charged and the case has been forwarded to the court.

If the court finds the director and the chief engineer of the Transcarpathian branch of "Svemon-West" OJSC guilty, they could face imprisonment for a term up to five years, or imprisonment for up to eight years, with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term up to three years - informed the press service of the Prosecutor's Office of the Transcarpathian region.
