SSU detained a Stryy resident, who received almost 300 grams of cannabis from Italy

On August 20, on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border checkpoint during customs inspection of the van, which arrived from Italy, among other parcels a package with suspicious substance wrapped in gift paper was discovered.  Examination confirmed that the package contained 288 grams of cannabis. 
The driver of the minivan, a citizen of Ukraine, which provides international transportation, explained that this bundle was given to him in Rome by an unknown person and he had to deliver it to Ivano-Frankivsk.  
On August 21, officers of SSU in Transcarpathian region detained a person receiving a package of narcotic substance on one of the bus stops in Ivano-Frankivsk, where the minivan had arrived. 29-year-old unemployed resident of Stryy in Lviv region admitted to police officers that the cannabis from Italy was for his own consumption.   

SSU investigators instituted prosecution under Part 2 of Art.305 (smuggling of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogues or precursors or counterfeit drugs) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This offense is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 8 to 10 years. Currently, the detained is in custody. 

The investigation into the case continues - informed the press center of the Security Service of Ukraine.
