Slovak community wants to open a national school in Storozhnytsya. The government is ready... to advise
On Monday, September 17, deputy head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Ivan Kachur met with the head of the Government of Slovaks living abroad, Igor Furdik, Consul General of the Slovak Republic in Uzhgorod Janka Buryanova and the specialist of the Government of Slovaks living abroad, Wilma Privarova.
As assured by representatives of Slovakia, Transcarpathia, where a significant portion of Slovak community resides, is an area of special attention from the neighboring country.
- We appreciate the policy that you carry out concerning our citizens residing in Transcarpathia. Education, culture has become a well-elaborated and fruitful areas of cooperation between the two countries - said Igor Furdik.
The participants also discussed the work of the school with advanced study of the Slovak language in Uzhgorod, implementation of international projects of cross-border cooperation, cultural projects, the creation of the Ukrainian cultural center in Presov.
Slovak delegates also touched the issue of creation of the Slovak language school in the village of Storozhnytsya. As assured by the Acting Head of the Regional Department of Education and Science Anna Sopkova, the regional authorities know about this desire of the community. Regional government is ready to provide any advice on this issue. However, the creation of such an educational institution is in the competence of the Slovak and Ukrainian state governments. Only the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and Slovakia have the right to issue the license. For now, those students in the village who want to learn the Slovak language (80 people), are studying it as optional.
