Semen Gluzman doubts that libel will be punishable by imprisonment again

Semen Gluzman believes that the introduction of criminal liability for defamation is unlikely. At one time a member of the Humanitarian Council under the President, Chairman of the Association of Psychiatrists of Ukraine, a former dissident, was serving a sentence for defaming the Soviet reality.

"We are not in Belarus. It is impossible here. You can try, you can lobby, but in Ukraine it will not work" - said Semen Gluzman to Radio Liberty.

Renowned psychiatrist believes that they should first abolish parliamentary immunity, "and then think about how to deal with libel."

On September 18, the Parliament passed in the first reading a law under which a criminal liability for defamation is introduced.
