Protecting the rights of people with disabilities

On Tuesday, September 18, the international conference "The rights of children with disabilities, including rights of women and girls to vocational guidance, rehabilitation and employment in the context of the implementation of the Council of Europe Plan on the disabled and other key documents."

The solemn opening ceremony was attended by a representative of the Department of Social Cohesion and Integration of the Directorate General for Democracy of the Council of Europe Volodymyr Chernega, Director of the Social Protection of Disabled Department of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine Oksana Polyakova, head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Oleksandr Ledyda, Uzhgorod Mayor Victor Pogorelov and international experts.

As noted by Oksana Polyakova, the fact of holding of the international conference in Ukraine is, on the one hand, the monitoring of state obligations in the field of the rights of people with disabilities, on the other - it is a sign of trust by the Council of Europe.

In turn, Volodymyr Chernega noted the importance of the process of adaptation in society for people with disabilities.

Oleksandr Ledyda during his salutary said:

- Protection of socially disadvantaged groups, including disabled people is an important duty of government. For people with disabilities, especially children, require attention and support, assistance in integrating into society.

After the official part, the International Conference members moved to the plenary. The forum will last three days. During this time, participants will discuss a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation of people with disabilities, particularly women and children, providing rehabilitation services to children and youth, creating conditions for independent living of people with disabilities.Also they will visit Transcarpathian regional center of complex rehabilitation of the disabled and handicapped children.
