Party of Regions member registered a draft law on granting Russian the status of the state language
Party of Regions deputy Oleksandr Chernomorov registered in the Verkhovna Rada a bill on granting Russian the status of the second official language.
The corresponding bill number 11243 was registered in Parliament on September 21.
The document proposes to amend the law on the principles of state language policy.
The deputy proposes to define the task of the language policy as ensuring the right of the citizens to free use of Russian as the language of the indigenous people of Ukraine, the language of interethnic and international communication, and in regions densely populated by people for whom Russian is the native language - the functioning of Russian on an equal terms with the state language.
It is proposed to add as the objective of the law the following: "the creation of conditions in the country for achievement for the Russian language, native to a large number of citizens of Ukraine, a legal status, equal with that enjoyed by the Ukrainian language."
In particular, "considering the state of the Russian language, which is widely used by citizens of Ukraine in most part of the state, to ensure further free use and development of the Russian language, which is a historically and culturally conditioned right of the significant number of citizens of Ukraine, with the further recognition of Russian as the state language along with the Ukrainian language."
