Mukachevo switched to bikes: a European Mobility Week began in the city

A symbolic race started from the central square exactly at 10.00. This year the number of participants has surpassed last year's by at least a third.

The main idea is to promote bicycle as an environmentally friendly and healthy way of transportation in the city.

In Sunday morning hundreds of citizens gathered to participate in the opening of the European Mobility Week, which runs 16 through 22 September. There were especially many young people and students.

The youngest participant is 4 years old. Sasha was riding with his father on the bike frame. Last year, he also participated in the race.

The executive committee of the city also had its representatives: they stood out with their white T-shirts with the inscription "Mukachevo" and the image of the town hall.

Once the clock on the City Hall struck 10.00, everybody prepared to start. The column of cyclists started from the monument to Cyril and Methodius and did circle around the city, breaking distance of 6 km, accompanied by traffic police.

They were joined by the master of sports of international class, a former member of the USSR national team, 68-year-old Gennady Chaplygin, honorary citizen of Mukachevo Victor Baloha and the Mayor Zoltan Lendyel.
