The requirement for the implementation of regional language is now 30%!
On Friday the working group on language legislation approved changes to the controversial "language law," informed DT referring to Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Affairs - Health Minister Raisa Bohatyriova. The key innovations concern the proportion of the population, which can be the basis for the implementation of regional language. The bill, which will soon be submitted to the Ministry of Justice, provides that the proportion of the people who speak the language to be recognized as regional, should be not less than 30%. And for the implementation of such language it would be necessary to gather signatures of this population.
However, according to Bohatyriova, they plan to submit to the Ministry of Justice another document - a draft concept of the State national cultural program of comprehensive development and functioning of the Ukrainian language.
August 8, the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych signed the law "On the Principles of State Language Policy", which provides official bilingualism in regions where minority population exceeds 10%.
