The participants of illegal trafficking of 9 Afghans to Hungary have been sentenced

The Court of Appeal of Transcarpathian region upheld the sentence of the Uzhhorod district court regarding five local residents who in 2011 illegally smuggled illegal immigrants across the state border of Ukraine.

It was established that in January 2011 criminals, including a now former border guard and an employee of the State Automobile Inspectorate agreed to participate in the trafficking of nine Afghans across the Ukrainian-Hungarian border.

As investigators found out, the members of the criminal group provided transportation, accommodation, food and immediate delivery of illegals to the border strip, where subsequently they had to be smuggled bypassing checkpoints across the state border to Hungary. The offenders decided to smuggle people from Afghanistan across the state border in small groups.

In late January 2011 near the village of Velyka Dobron in Uzhgorod district officers of the Security Service of Ukraine detained two cars with foreigners and persons accompanying them.

The investigators of Security Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region opened a criminal case against the participants of the illegal smuggling of immigrants under Part 2 of Art.332 (trafficking of persons across the state border of Ukraine, committed by a group of persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The court found five offenders guilty and sentenced them to 3 years imprisonment with a probation period of 1 to 3 years for each - reported the press center of the Security Service of Ukraine.
