The outdoor sculpture show in Mukachevo will be open until Monday (updated + PHOTOS)

As uzhgorod.in previously announced, today in Mukachevo an outdoor exhibition of sculpturer Mykola Shmatko opened. He is known artist who has the nickname "The King of Marble." This weekend his huge sculptures of plaster and bronze "occupied" the downtown.

The exhibition is dominated by religious and social themes – human figures give viewers informative message.

The exhibition immediately attracted the attention of the townspeople. Photographer Oleksandr Hudak told uzhgorod.in: «I took pictures of sculptures in the morning when I was going to work. When later I was returning home the city center was crowded. So, probably, at that time I would not have been able to photograph sculptures freely in the interior of the city. Such attention is not surprising: Mukachevo has never anything like this. I think such magnificent exhibition – when so many works of art are placed right in the center of the city – is something unusual for Ukraine in general. I liked it."

Mykola Shmatko in Mukachevo is not only presenting this special exhibition. He is going to settle down here. "The King of Marbles" moved to Transcarpathia on the invitation of Victor Baloha. The sculptor already has an apartment in Mukachevo. And in the future they plan to open in the city on Latorica an art gallery for sculptures and paintings. "Here in Mukachevo they are interested to develop arts" – says Mykola Shmatko.
