Who is the real master in Uzhgorod – Shavabska’s twin street has been repaired too, but at the expenses of the people

Vuzka street in Uzhgorod seemed to never have been asphalted. Because, though it is the center of the city, it is in the private sector – and the street is considered peripheral. So even recently the situation here was not too bright: mud and puddles after the slightest rain. Today it is a smooth, dry and covered with durable asphalt street which pleases eyes, legs and wheels.

No, the city treasury had no money for a small, hundred-meter section of the road – the street was fixed up by its residents. In order to cover more than 400 square meters of the road with asphalt people had to pay from their own pockets about 60 thousand hryvnias. The cost could have been larger, but as the Shvabska street was repaired nearby and the equipment was there, the amount decreased slightly. One of the initiators of this project and work organizer explained that people donated the money not in equal parts, but as much as they could. Because entrepreneurs can give a larger sum, but, for example, pensioners can not. Today, everyone in front of their houses at their own expense arrange drain channels.

By the way, in order to prevent trucks from driving on the repaired street and destroying the pavement, the residents installed a bounding box: any vehicle more than 2.7 meters high will not drive through it.   Such is local "self-government": they agreed, calculated, and paid themselves, and now they control it so that the road remained in good condition.
