The Parliament adopted the law on biometric passports with suggestions of Yanukovych

In Ukraine the documents with biometric information media will be introduced. A person will have the right to refuse from such passport for religious reasons.

At the meeting on November 20 the Parliament adopted the law "On the unified state register of population", which imposes biometric passports in Ukraine.
The bill was passed with regard to suggestions of the President Viktor Yanukovych. 243 deputies out of 335 voted for the law.
Earlier, the president had vetoed the law and returned it to the Parliament with his amendments. In particular, he proposed to guarantee the right to refuse to receive biometric passports on the grounds of religious beliefs.
 
According to the law, the passport of the citizen of Ukraine will be made in the form of a card containing contactless electronic medium of biometric information. The passport will include the following information: the country, document title, the bearer’s first and last names, sex, nationality, date of birth, the unique entry number in the register, number of the document, the expiry date of the document, date of issuance of the document, the issuing authority, place of birth, photograph and signature of the person.
