Priests and doctors united to stop tuberculosis (VIDEO)
Medical experts will tell Transcarpathian pastors how to stop TB and how the church can help to overcome this epidemic during one-day training seminars "Participation of the church in TB control", which will be taking place in Uzhgorod for four days.
The training takes place in the framework of the "Stop TB in Ukraine" program, which is supported by the Global Fund and Rinat Akhmetov's Foundation "Development of Ukraine".
According to doctors, it is clerics that have indisputable credibility and trust of the community, and they can effectively influence the consciousness of parishioners and encourage them to care about both spiritual and bodily health.
Heorhiy ZAKHARCHENKO - Honoured Doctor of Ukraine, a psychiatrist, a clergyman - together with Transcarpathian fellow tuberculotherapists will tell how through the sermon on the ambo to convey information about the dangers of tuberculosis and encourage parishioners to undergo preventive medical examinations.
Following the trainings they plan to publish specialized spiritual and medical recommendations for priests to help them deliver information to congregation in more accessible and popular way, regardless of religion.
