New Criminal Procedure Code: in what country we will wake up on November 20?
The new Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine will take effect at midnight on November 20. Ukrainian government believes that this moment will mark the beginning of the formation of radically new way of Ukrainian law enforcement and judicial systems functioning, reports the BBC.
The authors of the Code are convinced that it must protect rights of all people, regardless of their status and position in the legal field. At least, the presidential adviser Andriy Portnov - one of the authors of the document - is convinced that the number of acquittals will significantly increase.
However, human rights activists are more pessimistic as they are convinced that good intentions in the implementation of the CPC will be wrecked by the corruption of the system, low qualification of its workers, and banal lack of funds for implementation of the new document.
