Fried’s Palace is trimmed with tiles! (Photo)

Recently uzhgorod.in mentioned that Fried’s Palace – one of the most beutiful buildings of Petofi Square – is to be "upgraded" . Unfortunately, the fears were true: the facade (now – its lower part) started to be trimmed with tiles.

As uzhgorod.in was consulted by the experts, this tile "ekobond" that belongs to inexpensive decorative materials used in exterior construction works and is not among the materials recommended for use on historic buildings.   By the way – Fried’s Palace, built in 1910, belongs to a list of valuable buildings of Uzhgorod.

As uzhgorod.in previously mentioned with a reference to sources from city architecture and urban planning body, the repair of the building is not approved by any documents, the passport for facade facing is missing, thus, these works are spontaneous.

Today the chief architect of the city confirmed to uzhgorod.in by phone that the project is not approved.   Olexandr Sheba commented: "Of course, the intention to repair the facade is worth of respect. The Fried’s Palace has been spoiled with unsuccessful repairs, including "trimming" of the lower part of the facade with work marble. But to trim this building with tiles is totally unacceptable! When at last the owners of buildings in the historic center will understand that the repair should be done so that there was no shame for it! ".

Meanwhile, we caught the workers at facing facade of the Fried’s Palace with black "ekobond" …
