Chop customs officials detained contraband of iPhone 5, Scotch whiskey and French cognac

A 38-year-old resident of Ternopil tried to import into the territory of Ukraine bypassing customs duties 36 pieces of "IPhone 5" and mobile phones of different models, preliminary estimated at 70 000 UAH.

During the inspection of the luggage compartment of his van customs officers found a box with a brand new batch of mobile phones. Our countryman was carrying undeclared goods at the request of an unfamiliar man from Milan (Italy) for delivery in Simferopol.

Another citizen of Ukraine, also returning home from Italy in a van, assured the inspectors that he was carrying only personal belongings. However, when customs officers checked the luggage compartment of the vehicle it turned out that the driver picked up in Italy eleven boxes, which contained 29 bottles of Scotch whiskey, 12 bottles of French cognac, 135 litres of olive oil and 64 kg of sausages in total costing over 20 thousand hryvnias.

So, for providing inaccurate information about the goods being carried across the border of Ukraine, which are subject to declaration and payment of all required fees, in respect of two drivers protocols under Art.472 of Customs Code of Ukraine were written - informed Victoria Senhetovska, spokeswoman of Chop customs.
