Trainer of Karpaty HC Boris Petrovsky: "We have a long way before starting at the Champions League"

Karpaty Handball Club, the last season leader of the Ukrainian championship, is having a training session at Dragobrat in Rakhiv district, as per information of the head coach Boris Petrovsky given to

Few days ago the team left the complex Transcarpathia in Beregovo, where they spent couple of days with daily workouts. Athletes spent their evening in a thermal pool. After the last season team players have a lot of athletic injuries and healing water helps them to recover. In addition, Karpaty had sparring with a local team of to check their condition. According to the trainer, the game has revealed significant problems in the game. "It is clear that after so many players left the team, we expected the problems, but now we saw them in real game" - he explained.

Also, Boris Petrovsky, explained why the Ukrainian champion is not participating in Handball Champions League. The primary problem is our infrastructure. Since the Champions League is a commercial event, the demands to this tournament are much more severe than to any other European competitions. In particular, the gym should have at least 2,500 seats and a special playground coating. Our sports complex "Yunist" does not meet both of these requirements. Besides, with regards to the current potential of Karpaty players we are too far from the on the Champions League.

Thus, Karpaty will only take part in the EHF Cup. On October 13 Uzhgorod team starts the tournament at home with a match against Bulgarian "Etara-64."Ukrainian Championship starts on September 18.  According to Boris Petrovsky, all participants of the Championship start the competition in fairly equal conditions, so the Championship is going to be quite unexpected. Karpaty HC as the current champion claims to at least prize-winning places. "As the active champions, we have no right to hope for less," - said Petrovsky.
