The owner of the house in Transcarpathia, where the smuggler’s tunnel leads, is found
This was announced today during a briefing by the Acting Head of Chop border squad, the chief of the headquarter Lieutenant Colonel Viktor Potetenin. At the same time he refused to reveal the name - "in the interests of the investigation and other procedures that are being carried out".
As it is known, the criminal police of Slovakia have discovered an underground tunnel, which has been allegedly used for smuggling cigarettes. According to Viktor Potetenin, a joint border and representative meeting was held immediately, during which the manhole’s structure was studied, and the area was monitored.
Experts, following the route of the tunnel along the state border, came to a private house in Uzhgorod on Zaporozhska street".
Now, around the clock watch has been organized around the house, investigation to establish those living in the house are being carried out. Also, the building is being studied in order to find the entrance to the tunnel.
It is the first time that the underground tunnel in the western region has been found. And this, according to Viktor Potetenin, may be an indication that "smugglers are looking for new forms and methods of illegal activity". In total, according to border guards only this year, 600 thousand cartons of cigarettes have been detained when smugglers were trying to illegally transfer them through the state border. In addition, border guards have detained three aircrafts, which were used for smuggling tobacco products".
