The number of entrants has doubled this year

The number of high school leavers this year has almost doubled. Accordingly, the number of entrants has increased. The largest number of applications was submitted in Shevchenko University and Kiev Polytechnic University.

Within the current entering campaign, 620,040 people expressed their desire to obtain higher education, while last year the figure was 290 thousand people. This has been informed by the press service of the Ministry of Education with reference to the Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education Ministry Nikolai Fomenko.

"Top five leading higher educational institutions, judging by the number of applications submitted for the entire period of the entering campaign, haven’t changed much. Most applications have been received by Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University (45,467), National Technical University of Ukraine Kiev Polytechnic Institute (41 071), Ivan Franko Lviv National University (40 751), National Aviation University (35,283) and the National University "Lviv Polytechnic", "- said Fomenko.

We remind that this year there have been 320 thousand school leavers, and in 2011 - only 190 thousand, mainly due to the change in school terms.

According to the State Statistics, in 2011, 315 thousand people entered universities. The maximum number of students was accepted to universities in 2006 - 508 thousand. In 2010 there were already 392 thousand of them due to the changes in the demographic situation in the early 1990s.
