"Bavka" temporarily moves

This was reported today, on August 28, during a press conference at the press center "Transcarpathia" by the director of Uzhgorod puppet theater Vasyl Chaykovych.

According to him, the theater has to begin a new season (by the way, it starts on Sunday, September 2) in the Trade Unions Leasure Center on Ruska Str. as 110-year old building of "Bavka" literaly crumbles. "At the end of May after one of the shows a piece of plaster weighing about 8-9 kg fell off the wall" - said Vasyl Chaykovych. - At the moment we have banned use of the stage, because it is dangerous. A month later the situation was repeated. We had to make decisions about people's safety: both spectators, and staff of the theater. "

In early July, the building was completely shut down, because it was dangerous to be in. Then "Building technical supervision" organization recommended to conduct two tests: the geological, concerning the shrinkage of the theater toward the river, and capital structures inspection. Geological analysis has been already performed, but without the second inspection its results have no value. Now "Bavka" raises 33 000 UAH necessary for the second analysis.

As for the rumors that allegedly some persons try to take over the building, Vasyl Chaykovych said that he is not going to play the wrong game and react to any cheap and incompetent provocations."There is no reason to talk about it. I hear and know everything, but I do not want to comment, because people who talk about it have nothing to do with our founders or the team," - he said.
