70% of diseases considered to be age-related are a consequence of our lifestyle
MD, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine Department of Donetsk National Medical University Tatiana Miagkova held a lecture for family physicians in Mukachevo district. The basic idea is that there are effective ways of prevention of cardiovascular and joint diseases. The scientist said that 70% of diseases considered to be age-related in fact are a consequence of our lifestyle. Tatiana Miagkova advised to teach people to self-examination and recommended them to undergo regular preventive examination by specialists. "Control of glucose and cholesterol in the blood is worth a penny, but can save thousands of lives," - said Tetyana.
The basics of a healthy life style were one of the main topics of the lecture. Daily exercise for 10-15 minutes, workout two or three times a week, and walking at least five miles a day is the key to longevity and prevention of major cardiovascular diseases and diseases of the joints. The doctor also advised to talk with patients, particularly that of retirement age, about active intellectual activity. According to Ms. Miagkov, just two years of weak intellectual work can result in signs of dementia.
This lecture for doctors launched a series of further studies. According to the head of the Health Department of Mukachevo RDA Victoria Laney, the administration intends to invite specialists from the regional administration, Uzhgorod National University, Kyiv researchers to work with family physicians on the prevention of diseases. Through regular trainings to improve the professional level of doctors in rural areas, reformation of this sector will bring primary care to a new level.
