In Transcarpathia infected mandarins from Italy were found

In Transcarpathian region plant quarantine inspectors prevented the import of mandarins infected with Mediterranean fruit fly. The fruits were transported in carry-on baggage of a driver coming from Italy – informed the AgroNews.

In plant quarantine point "Chop (Tisa)" in Transcarpathia plant quarantine inspectors discovered in hand luggage of a truck driver, who was traveling from Italy, 2 kilograms of mandarins infected with pest – the Mediterranean fruit fly. The fruits were seized and disposed.

Mediterranean fruit fly is one of the most dangerous quarantine organisms. In particular, under favorable conditions, this pest can acclimate in southern Ukraine and cause significant losses to producers of fruits and berries of the country.
