You may get 5 years of jail sentence for insulting in the Web

You can get the freedom restriction for 5 years for insults on the basis of nationality, religion, race, sex and ethnic group. However, the police do not track the comments on the internet for which you may get sentenced.

Penalties for offensive comments may be only in such a case, when Ukrainians themselves sue. And that is the court which defines the punishment for them. The Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Vladimir Polishchuk reported about it.

‘But if the threats to people lives appear – this is the criminal case. The police is tracking this’, – informed Polishchuk.

According to his words people may be simply ordered to pay a fine (up to 119 hryvnia) or force somebody to make a public apology and to pay a compensation for the moral damage. The penalty even for petty bullying provides 15 days of jail – it is stated in the Article 173 of the Administration Code that people can get arrested for using inappropriate language.

Human rights defenders say that the network insults replace the street quarrel. But both abuse on the street and in the network is the subject of the Administration responsibility and you may get fined for this. At the same time, bloggers confess that they are getting scared of the courts possibilities because of the expression of their opinions on their personal pages. The habitué of the blogosphere and social network said that they don’t use inappropriate language to address someone in particular but, so to speak, for more emotional expression of their opinion. ‘The only thing that should be done – is to limit the access of juveniles to their records. Such a function among the living magazines has been already provided a couple of years ago,’ – said the blogger dutunko.
