Try mamalyga in Romania
In Romanian the festival of mamalyga (porridge made of yellow maize flour) will be held in village Turts, Satu-Mar County Council. It will be a continuation of the tradition of gastronomic festival, which takes place in Hungarian Niredgaza.
15 teams are going to take part in the competition, ten Romanian and five Hungarian ones. They are going to prepare about 6,000 servings, which will be distributed among the visitors for tickets. The team that collects the greatest number of tickets will be declared the winner of the festival. Romanian, Hungarian and German folklore ensembles will entertain the audience.
As the Chairman of the Board of County Satu Mare, Arpad Tchech, the purpose of this gastronomic festival is to increase the number of tourists who come to the county, and the creation of an alternative form of entertainment in the knowledge of Romanian culture and traditions of the county Satu Mare through direct interaction with the locals within the multi-ethnic and multicultural event.
Gastronomic festival will be held as a part of “Gourmet Tour in the districts of Szabolcs-Satmar-Bereg and Satu Mare," funded by the program "Cross-border Cooperation between Hungary and Romania in 2007-2013.
