Tomenko demands to stop money extortion from family members of a deceased
Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mykola Tomenko insists on the need to standardize the procedure of establishing the fact of a person’s death and stop the law enforcement agencies’ demands to conduct a forensic autopsy of a deceased at relatives’ expense.
According to Obozrevatel, the deputy keeps receiving numerous complaints from various regions of Ukraine. Citizens state that local law enforcement agencies insist on autopsy of all the dead. Doing so, they refer to the order signed by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Minister of Health, October 25, 2011.
As Tomenko states, such a "service", depending on the region, costs from 500 to 1000 hryvnia, and is paid by relatives of a deceased. The "informal" procedure is carried out for half the price, the politician said.
To resolve this conflict, Mykola Tomenko has sent an appeal to the President and the Prime Minister, which requires to take measures for the standardization of the order establishing the fact of a person's death in order to stop the unreasonable demands to conduct a forensic autopsy of the deceased at relatives’ expense and to eliminate the grounds for corruption among police officers.
