Svobody Avenue should be renamed after Petro Skunts

Writer and deputy of Uzhgorod City Council Mykhailo Roshko spoke about the initiative to rename Svobody Avenue after Petro Skunts. The presidium meeting where this initiative will be considered is coming soon in the Transkarpathian Regional Writers Union. The decision to grant the regional center streets after the names of prominent writers and poets of the region was signed several years ago. Currently, the members of society insist to rename those streets where lived Shevchenko laureates poet Petro Skunts and writer Ivan Chendei.
We want to remind you that the prominent Ukrainian poet, interpreter, journalist Petro Mykhailovych Skunts deceased five years ago, April 30. The members of the Writers Union, where the poet had been working many years, together with their families visited Petro Skunts’ grave at the cemetery ‘Kalvaria’ and put flowers.
According to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine resolution this year’s 70th anniversary of Petro Skunts and Chendei’s 90th anniversary will be celebrated at the state level.
