Infection disease doctor considers Uzhgorod water supply as ‘criminal’
The incidence of ‘hepatitis C’ disease happens 14 times more often than on average across Ukraine. This was announced by Sergei Turianytsa, the assistant professor of microbiology, immunology, virology, infectious diseases and epidemiology of the Medical Faculty of UzhNU on May 24. He said that such a horrible number is connected with bad water supply, which Uzhgorod citizens receive.
‘I would call the current water supply ‘criminal’. Because water flows for two hours through the pipes, then it stops to flow for a while and later on it's supply restors again. It is clear that when the rain is near the ground water, it absorbs into the water and transfers to consumers. The incidence rate of hepatitis A in Uzhgorod exceeded 14 times on average across Ukraine’.
If the summer is dry and the situation does not change, we will have the same situation. And now just imagine, a person having hepatitis B or C, which is incurable, may get infected with hepatitis A through the water. What will happen to him then? – said Mr. Turianytsia. The Doctor called on the Uzhgorod ‘Vodokanal’ (Water Supply) more actively tackle this problem.
