In Mukachevo a rally-requiem took place in order to mark the 26th anniversary of the Chernobyl catastrophe
Mukachevo district is now home to 202 liquidators and almost all of them need to maintain their health with the help of medications. This was said during the rally-requiem to mark the 26th anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy, by the head of Mukachevo district organization ‘Chernobyl Union of Ukraine’, who is the only liquidator with a diagnosis of acute radiation sickness, Ivan Herts.
The Head of Mukachevo City Zoltan Lengyel in his speech at the event said: ‘Every year in our memories and hearts we go back to the tragic events, pay tribute and gratitude to those who sacrificed health and life during the liquidation of the accident at the nuclear power station.’
Deputy Chairman of the Mukachevo State Administartion Olga Marinets noted that the administration is trying in every way to support the victims of Chernobyl, to provide material support and solve social issues. Together with the district council chairman Ivan Mikhailov, they awarded the liquidators of the Chernobyl catastrophe with gifts.
Participants of the meeting honored the memory of the liquidators who tragically died with a minute of silence. Leaders of the city and district, law enforcement officers and rescue workers. Lay flowers and wreaths to the monument to the heroes of Chernobyl. At the end of the meeting priests held a memorial service for victims of the Chernobyl accident.
