2337 people took part in the manufacture of homespun towel at the festival "Berlibasky banush", which took place on Sunday, May 13, in the village of Kostylivka in Rakhiv district. So a record for the greatest number of people who have woven a towel was set.
"We gave out certificates to the people, confirming that they were actually engaged in the manufacture of the towel, and thus counted all of them - commented Olga Smetanyuk, the chairman of Kostylivka.
A rug was woven on a 100-year-old machine that is saved in the village in the center of folk art. The manufacturing started in the morning and ended about 10 p.m., just before the fireworks that closed the festival. Tourists were willing to join the weaving.
Everybody added a strip (the homespun towel was made of strips cut from old clothes). Two-meter long rug will be preserved for the museum of the festival, which is scheduled to open in Kostylivka. According to Olga Smetanyuk, over the years of the celebration they have gathered a lot of gifts, souvenirs and other items of potential exhibits.
