May 12 – a day rich for occasions

Practically each Transcarpathian has a right to celebrate this date in one’s own way.

Today Ukraine celebrates the Mother’s Day. This year the second Sunday of May coincided with the date when Orthodox Christians honour the memory of their loved ones who are no longer with them. Farewell Sunday is the second after Easter which is "obligatory" day for visiting cemeteries and a Memory Day of those who passed away.

And on May 12 the World Day of Nurses is also celebrated. The International Council of Nurses established this holiday in 1971 in honor of the birth date of the English nurse Florence Nightingale who during the Crimean War organized the care for wounded soldiers of allies, consistently implementing the principles of sanitation, thereby decreasing the mortality.
