Lviv railway division without warning terminated water supply to Chop

The situation with water supply in the city of Chop has become critical.

On June 15, 2015, at 10:00 am, without officially warning the Chop City Council and the city residents, the separate unit "Uzhgorod water supply distance of the "State Territorial-Branch Association "Lviv Railway" suddenly terminated water supply to the city of Chop – the official website of the City Council reported.

In this regard, the mayor Galina Tsar addressed an open appeal to the Prime Minister of Ukraine, deputies of Ukraine, the SSU and prosecutors in Transcarpathian region with a request to intervene in the situation due to gross violation of the Law of Ukraine "On Drinking Water and Water Supply" by the separate unit "Uzhgorod water supply distance of the "State Territorial-Branch Association "Lviv Railway", namely:

According to Part 5 of Article 23 of the Law of Ukraine "On Drinking Water and Water Supply", drinking water supply company has the right to restrict or terminate centralized water supply in case of the need to promptly respond to deteriorating water quality in drinking water sources and the inability to bring it to the requirements of state standards subject to notification of local self-government, local executive power and public health service bodies on such termination and its causes."

Also according to Part 2 of Art. 46 of the Law of Ukraine "On Drinking Water and Water Supply", drinking water supply companies shall be liable for ungrounded violation of established order of public drinking water supply for drinking and household needs, as well as to food and health care facilities under the laws of Ukraine .

"Additionally, we inform that this situation has caused the growth of social tension in the city, deterioration of sanitary-epidemiological state, in particular in health care, educational and social institutions of the city.  In view of the above, please take urgent measures", – the statement says.
