Last year, Transcarpathian veterans of the war in Afghanistan received 2 apartments and a house

Traditionally, on the eve of the Day commemoration of the combatants in other states and the anniversary of the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, on Thursday, February 13, the head of the region Oleksandr Ledyda met with representatives of public organizations for combatants.

Currently, in the region there are 11448 registered war veterans, including: 1982 disabled veterans, 4093 combatants, 2459 participants of the war, 2914 widows. In 2013, they puchased 524 spa voucher for rehabilitation of war veterans.  3917 people, including war veterans, received one-time financial assistance totaling more than 2.5 million hryvnias. Last year, they purchased 2 apartments and one house for veterans in Uzhgorod, Khust and Volovets. This year, they also provided money for purchase of apartments.

Ex-soldiers-internationalists told about the problems that they and their families face in everyday life. Thus, as they told, in Uzhgorod, after installations of boilers, electric heating in the appartments, electricity bills increased by several times. It would not be a problem, if they could produce documentation for the equipment. But appropriate services delay its production. City officials also distanced themselves from solving this issue, – the participants of the meeting said. Without documents for equipment ex-soldiers in Afghanistan and their families can not take advantage of benefits granted to them. The issues of repair of apartments, medical care for Uzhgorod veterans also remain problematic.

Oleksandr Ledyda noted that many of those issues should be solved by local governments. At the regional level, they will establish a special working group to study these and other pressing issues which will include representatives of relevant departments of the RSA, regional power and gas companies, local executive committees. The next week, the working group and representatives of organizations will meet at a joint meeting.
