On March 15, a retrospective exhibition of the works by Honored Artist of Ukraine Ivan Ilko entitled "My World, Verkhovyna" and dedicated to the artist’s 80th anniversary was solemnly opened in the art center "Ilko Gallery" in Uzhgorod.

The exhibition was opened by the artist’s son Mykhailo Ilko, a well-known architect, who, in particular, said that the works covered more than 50 years of creative activity. "My father is 80 years old, and he has been painting for 60 of them," – he says. In general, the unifying theme is the ethnos of the Carpathians.

The artist himself said that when he had to choose paintings for the exhibition, he could not do it, because every "image" was dear to him.

Bishop Milan awarded the artist with the Order of Cyril and Methodius of the 2nd degree (the artist already has the same order, but of the 3rd degree). Then, representatives of Tyachiv community in Uzhgorod, colleagues, and friends congratulated the artist. In the comment to our publication, Uzhgorod art critic Mykhailo Syrokhman said: "Ivan Ilko is one of the dominant figures in the Transcarpathian painting of the second half of the twentieth century. He found his unique style and showed the Carpathians, their grandeur, their incomprehensibility, spontaneity in his own manner. Mountains for him are a covenant, a credo, a symbol of the Carpathian land".
