Dilovetskiy Kalach is so delicious because cooked on wood fire

The village of Dilove in Rakhiv district is not only known worldwide as a terrestrial center of Europe. Local housewives bake the most delicious Kalach (traditional East Slavic Bread, commonly served during various ritual meals). They say their pastries are known all over Transcarpathia, and yesterday it was the fifth time they showed their goodies at the Day of the village.
"We have been holding this festival for many years and today is a small anniversary - said the head of the village Ludmila Romaniuk. – We have been baking kalaches since long ago, we even have an old bakery. The main secret of Dilove’s Kalaches is that they are cooked exclusively of domestic flour, milk, eggs and are baked on a wood fire. Now, all guests can enjoy pastries. This holiday wouldn’t take place without the help of the village’s assets, entrepreneurs and deputies.
People did not only sing, dance, eat and drink in Dilove. This year there was a contest for the best three streets, where the tables were replete with all sorts of gutsul goodies - Kulesh, gribyanka (mushroom soup), guslyanka (sheep milk), funks, potatoes baked with bacon, grilled lamb, Kolaches with cheese or poppy seeds and nuts, afinyanka and plum vodka...
The People's Deputy of Ukraine Vasyl Petevka also supported the Day of the center of Europe. Nearly 50 residents of Dilove received from him gifts and cash prizes. The best beekeepers, foresters, doctors, bakers, teachers and open-pit mine employees were named. Nobody was ignored: owners of exemplary houses, the activists of the village, teachers, veterans, mothers of large families, Vasiliy Godinchuk, who was celebrating his 80th birthday in "Dilovetski Kalaches", and all those who applied for financial aid. They all got mini-food-processors, coffee makers, blenders, electric irons, watches. The head of the village along with the Dilove hostesses will now bake flatbread in a new bread maker and Hmilivskaya School is enjoying a new printer. The presents were brought to the homes of those who hadn’t been able to come.
