In Uzhgorod, they began installing polymer manhole covers. According to Victor Shchadey, they are 2.5 times cheaper than cast iron ones and thieves will not be stealing them for scrap. 

"This is a very urgent issue for the city. We installed these covers in test mode. Polymer covers withstand dynamic load of 25 tons, they worked well in other cities. Because their price is much lower than that of cast iron ones, we will be able to purchase the required number of covers this autumn and close all the manholes where they are missing. And, considering the fact that they will not be stolen for scrap, we can completely solve the problem of manhole covers on the streets of Uzhgorod" – the head of the city said.
