In Uzhgorod, short films about migrants will be screened again

Already this Friday, January 25, 2012, at 19.00 in the night club "Phantom" there will be the second festival of short films "Migration – an attempt to escape or the right to a better life?".

The festival is held based on the results of the eponymous short film competition organized by the charitable organization "Medical Aid Committee in Transcarpathia" and Project Cinemahall in Uzhgorod. During October-December 2012, nine video works from the cities of Uzhgorod, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Zdolbuniv and the town of Mizhhirya were submitted for the contest. The works are presented in two categories: "Feature" and "Documentary." Contest winners are determined by the jury, formed of representatives and partners of BO "KMDZ" and experts in the field of cinema: photographer Oleksandr Hlyadyelov, director Ivan Sautkin, photographer and film critic Heorhiy Zhuk, and the head of BO "KMDZ" Natalia Kabatsiy.

"This project not only supports the creative initiatives of youth, but also gives the creators an opportunity to understand the phenomenon of alien land with all its human dimensions and to contribute to the prevention of negative social phenomena among young people, – said the head of BO "KMDZ" Natalia Kabatsiy. – The main goal of the festival is to draw public attention to the existing flows of migrants and refugees, and closely related issues of immigration and integration, racism, xenophobia, and tolerance."

Immediately after the showing of films and awarding of winners in the night club "Phantom" there will be a party dedicated to the completion of the contest, with participation of Transcarpathian band "Hudaki Village Band» (the village of N.Selyshche), who prepared for the guests the presentation of their new (fourth) album "Vandruy!" and the premiere of the new video clip. Admission is free.
