In Transcarpathia, the court convicted the prisoner, who organized the drug smuggling from Italy

The Uzhgorod city and district court judgment concerning the 33-year-old resident of Ternopil, who organized smuggling of cannabis resin, has entered into force.

In June 2012, the 33-year-old resident of Ternopil, who was held in Chortkiv prison for committing an offense under Art.128 (careless severe or moderate bodily harm) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, ordered the drugs for his own consumption.

Using a mobile phone, the prisoner ordered cannabis resin from his friend, who lived in Milan (Italy). The 33-year-old prisoner asked his friend, a local resident, to receive the package of narcotics in exchange for half of it.

June 18th, 2012, a minivan, following from Italy to Ukraine, arrived at the checkpoint "Tisa" of the Chop customs. During the customs inspection in one of the parcels, they found a shampoo bottle, which contained a suspicious substance. The examination confirmed that that was cannabis resin – especially dangerous narcotic.

The driver of the minivan, a citizen of Ukraine, knew nothing of the contents of the parcel. On the same day, inTernopil, at the central bus station, where the minivan from Italy had arrived, officers of the Security Service of Ukraine office in Transcarpathian region detained the recipient of the drug.

At the trial the 33-year-old resident of Ternopil, accused under Part 2 of Art.305 (smuggling of narcotics, commited by previous concert by a group of persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, concluded an agreement with the prosecutor on the recognition of guilt.

Uzhgorod City and District Court sentenced the resident of Ternopil to 5 years and 8 months in prison.

As for the prisoner’s accomplice, last year, investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine office in Transcarpathian region opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Art.305 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Currently, the case is pending in court.
