In Transcarpathia, New Year’s night was quiet – the MIA office

To ensure safety during the celebration of the New Year, the police was working in enhanced mode. The policemen were close to places of mass festivities, patrolling the streets of settlements. And it gave a positive result – on the first day of the New Year there was no serious crime. However, the police did have some work.

On the eve of the New Year, Uzhgorod city police was reported that in one of the city’s garage cooperatives, a dead body of an unknown man aged around 60-65 years had been found. The investigative team arrived at the scene, the deceased was identified. It was a 73-year-old resident of the city.  Visual inspection of the corpse revealed no signs of violent death, the cause of death of the pensioner is being established.

There also were some funny situations. A 33-year-old citizen of Belarus, who had come to Transcarpathia to visit friends, appealed to the city police. The Belarusian stayed at a hotel in Uzhgorod, where her purse with the money in the amount of 2000 UAH and 150 USD disappeared under mysterious circumstances. The woman told the police about the theft of the purse, law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, but during the inspection of the scene the purse with money was unexpectedly found.It was behind the radiators in the service room of the hotel, where it had been lost by the owner herself.

A real theft occurred elsewhere. A resident of Uzhgorod from Vysoka Street reported to the police that at night on December 31, an unknown person, by damaging the mortise lock on the front door of her apartment, had infiltrated inside and stolen three paintings by artists Sholtes and Hertz, as well as jewelry. The amount of loss amounted to more than 32,000 UAH. The police are looking for the thieves as well as stolen paintings and jewels.

Another theft was committed in an apartment on Svoboda Ave., where an unknown person, by picking a lock to the front door of the apartment, stole from the bedroom a laptop and a tablet costing over 1,300 UAH.

On Teatralna Sq. in Uzhgorod, patrol officers stopped a 23-year-old man for committing an administrative offense and found in his jacket pocket a paper roll of marijuana weighing 2 grams and a metal device for smoking it.

A doctor of Mukachevo CDH reported to Mukachevo city police that a 24-year-old resident of the village of Bobovyshche in Mukachevo district with the diagnosis of "penetrating stab wound of the abdominal cavity, alcohol content test 1.95 ppm" had appealed to them for the provision of medical aid. According to the man’s mother, the victim in a state of intoxication negligently injured himself in the stomach with a kitchen knife. The knife was seized.

In Svalyava district, near the village of Chernik, a car "VAZ-2101", driven by a 16-year-old resident of the village, caught fire. The fire resulted from a short circuit in the wiring. The fire destroyed the engine compartment of the vehicle. Nobody was hurt.

In the train "Kyiv-Uzhgorod", a laptop "Samsung" belonging to a 29-year-old female passenger from Kyiv was stolen. As Svalyava policemen found out, the laptop was stolen by a 35-year-old resident of the village of Makarevo in Mukachevo district. The physical evidence was seized.

An accident with two victims occurred on the New Year’s Eve on the road "Mukachevo-Rohatyn-Lviv" at the entrance to the village of Siltse in Irshava district. A 20-year-old driver of a car "BMW-320", a resident of Vynogradiv, lost control, drove into a ditch, and collided with a tree, resulting in the inflammation of the vehicle. The driver himself suffered several fractured ribs, closed craniocerebral trauma, fracture of the pelvis, and was hospitalized in the casualty department of Irshava CDH, but his passengers were less fortunate. A 26-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl died at the scene… The driver’s blood sample was taken for alcohol content test.  The vehicle was delivered to Irshava District Police impound lot.
