On Monday, the Head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Oleksandr Ledyda approved the regional plan of action for the implementation of the National Strategy for Education Development. One of the measures envisages to continue to "optimize the network of secondary schools based on demographic, economic and social features" in the period of 2013-2021. In fact, "optimization" is the authorities’ excuse for closing of schools.
Recall that for the last three years, 9 schools in the region have been closed. "Regional" authorities also propose to optimize the network of boarding schools and the network of educational and rehabilitation centers for children with special needs. The optimization will also affect vocational schools. The government plans to "improve the network of vocational schools by their annexation to more powerful institutions."
