In the ranking of Ukrainian cities development Uzhgorod took 23rd place out of 45

The weekly edition ‘Komentarii’ compared 45 largest cities in Ukraine on 25 criteria, forming five groups having five criteria in each one. These groups can be called ‘the demographic situation and life safety’, ‘public employment and income’, ‘public expenditure’, ‘city budget expenditure on the population’, ‘development of urban infrastructure’. The top five leaders judging from the amount of points received are Kiev, Khmelnitsky, Sevastopol, Ternopil and Dnipropetrovsk.

What concerns Uzhgorod, which lost to Lviv (592.5 points) and took in the final table the ‘middle’ 23rd place, though the city has the smallest population among all those included into the study, it impresses with its contrasts.

It took the second from bottom place for the city spending on transport and roads, and the third from bottom – for public utilities expenditures, but at the same time it became the second (after Kiev) in retail turnover and the third (after Kiev and Poltava) in the number of full-time employees (all these figures are taken in relation to the number of population). For 100 residents of Uzhgorod there are 38 full-time employees of enterprises (with the average Ukrainian figure of 23) – these figures show that in Uzhgorod people find official work primarily in the areas of trade, not only the citizens but also the residents of neighborhoods.

Also, Uzhgorod entered the top ten for the city spending on education, for the commissioning of housing and consumption of non-financial services by the population, but at the same time it turned in the top ten worst cities for the debts for housing and communal services, construction and repair of roads as well as for city spending on physical education and sports.
