Today, on May 22, at about 4.40 a.m., an unknown threw gasoline onto the terrace roof of the restaurant "Uzhgorod castle" and straight in front of the Department of Civil Service security guard set fire to it with a lighter, and then ran away.
The guards noticed the shadow of the man on the CCTV screens and went out to check what was happening. They started putting out the flames and though firefighters arrived very fast, the terrace had almost been saved. As a consequence, only about 4 square meters of roof were damaged and the interior of the restaurant survived.
As it has become known to uzhgorod.in., law enforcement officers, who arrived at the scene with a service dog, found a lost or discarded cigarette lighter with the offender’s fingerprints near the Law Faculty Building.
The owner of the terrace, an Uzhgorod businesswoman, chairman of District Department of Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs in Transcarpathian region, a member of the executive committee of Uzhgorod city council Margarita Moshchak, says she is very grateful to the Department of Civil Service security guard on service, and although the crime was committed at the time when we want to sleep most, they immediately noticed the arsonist and reacted, saving the place from potentially big damages. Margarita Nikolaevna hopes police will also be able to quickly locate and arrest the attacker.
