In Rakhiv district, a policeman was wounded with a machine gun

On Tuesday evening (22.11), an extraordinary incident with the use of firearms occured in Rakhiv district of Transcarpathian region.

Around 20.00, the District Police Department received the information that in the village of Vydrychka, a local resident was walking around the village with a Kalashnikov assault rifle. The operative group of the police officers immediately arrived at the scene, and, having found the criminal on a street, tried to convince him to give up the weapons. Instead, he opened a chaotic fire, as a result of which a police lieutenant suffered a gunshot wound to the hand. In addition, six bullets went through the car of another policeman. Over the next few seconds, the policeman detained the criminal.

As it turned out, it was a 53-year-old resident of Vydrychka, previously convicted for illegal handling of weapons.Later, doctors found out that he was intoxicated. Now the offender is arrested and is held in jail, the weapons – a Kalashnikov with destroyed identification number – was seized, its origin is being established. Criminal proceeding over the incident has been opened under Art. 348 of the Criminal Code (attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer).
